Calum has a thriving commercial chancery practice spanning:

  • Property (both landlord and tenant and real property).
  • Commercial.
  • Insolvency.

In addition to his drafting and advisory work, Calum regularly appears as sole counsel in the High Court and the County Court.

Recent examples of Calum’s work include:

  • Representing the owner of the Ibis Budget Hotel at London Heathrow Airport concerning a £5.5 million dispute relating to the use of the hotel’s car park.
  • Unimed Glory SA v Republic Vanuatu [2023]. Led by Romie Tager KC and Stuart Hornett, Calum represented the Republic of Vanuatu in defending an injunction in support of arbitration proceedings concerning agreements under which the Claimant alleged it was entitled to assign the Republic’s fishing quotas granted under the SPRFMO convention. The case raised an unsettled point of law concerning state immunity and the grant of interim injunctions, which the Court of Appeal gave permission to appeal on.
  • Representing the Defendant in a claim brought against it by La Liga concerning a licence to broadcast the La Liga first division games in various African territories.
  • Advising two commercial leaseholders of a multi-million pound mixed-use commercial and residential building in London regarding claims for unpaid service charges and cross claims for disrepair following a fire that engulfed the building.
  • Advising and representing the owners of a boutique hotel concerning their claims for interference with rights of way, boundary disputes and trespass.
  • Acting for an offshore private wealth bank in recovering possession of a circa £9 million property in Central London.
  • Advising and representing King’s College London in relation to a dispute concerning one of their student accommodations.

Since 2023, Calum has been a member of the Attorney General’s Junior Junior Panel.

Before joining Chambers, Calum taught contract law on the LLB at the University of Leeds.
