Jake commenced his Third Six (practising) Pupillage at Selborne Chambers in October 2025.

Before joining Selborne Chambers, Jake completed pupillage at XXIV Old Buildings. There, he completed a number of pieces of work for his supervisors relating to wills and probate, trusts, civil fraud, company and insolvency, aviation, commercial litigation, and offshore work.

Jake is accepting instructions across all of Chambers’ specialisms, with a particular interest in both traditional and commercial chancery work.

Jake holds an undergraduate degree in law from the University of Cambridge, Christ’s College, and an LLM in Legal Practice (Bar) from BPP University Law School, where he achieved a distinction. In 2022, Jake was awarded the Major Scholarship by the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple.

Jake has completed instructions relating to landlord and tenant disputes, which include:

  • Advising on the prospects of appeal in relation to a claim made under section 214 of the Housing Act 2004.

As a pupil, Jake completed work for his supervisors relating to trusts, wills, and probate, including:

  • Advising a successor charity on its entitlement to a bequest made to its predecessor.
  • Advising on a challenge to a will for want of knowledge and approval.
  • Advising on an application under the Presumption of Death Act 2013.
  • Advising on a claim relating to a half-secret trust.
  • Drafting various documents in relation to a claim made under section 50 of the Administration of Justice Act 1985.

As a pupil, Jake completed work for his supervisors relating to insolvency law, including:

  • Drafting a skeleton argument for proceedings relating to an application to set aside a statutory demand.
  • Advising on the application of the rule in Cherry v Boultbee in the context of a company in administration.
  • Advising a creditor in relation to recoveries against a company in liquidation and section 238 Insolvency Act 1986.
  • Drafting a skeleton argument for proceedings under section 284(1) Insolvency Act 1986.
  • Drafting a skeleton argument for proceedings relating to an application for a charging order over land.

As a pupil, Jake completed work for his supervisors relating to commercial litigation, including:

  • Drafting particulars of claim in a contractual dispute in the agricultural sector.
  • Drafting particulars of claim in a contractual dispute relating to the sale of an aircraft.
  • Drafting a reply and mediation position paper in a dispute relating to the termination of an aircraft’s lease.
  • Drafting a defence and counterclaim in a contractual dispute relating to the purchase of shares.
  • Advising on a claim relating to renovation works on an aircraft.
  • Advising on a contractual dispute which included consideration of personal guarantees and penalty clauses.
  • Advising on a claim relating to unpaid commissions due under a contract.
  • Drafting a skeleton argument for a CMC in relation to a contractual dispute.
  • Advising in relation to a challenge to jurisdiction under CPR 11 and setting aside permission for service out of the jurisdiction.
  • Drafting a defence for proceedings for proceedings in relation to a personal guarantee by a director.
  • Drafting a skeleton argument for proceedings in relation to an application made in a contractual dispute under CPR 18.
  • Advising on quantum and drafting a defence in proceedings related to damage sustained to an aircraft during maintenance.

As a pupil, Jake completed work for his supervisors relating to company and partnership law, including:

  • Drafting the points of defence for an unfair prejudice petition.
  • Advising an unincorporated association.
  • Drafting a skeleton argument in relation to an application to set aside a judgment in unfair prejudice proceedings.

As a pupil, Jake completed work for his supervisors relating to civil fraud and asset recovery, including:

  • Drafting a summary judgment skeleton argument in relation to civil fraud proceedings governed by the laws of the Russian Federation.
  • Drafting grounds of appeal and supporting skeleton argument in relation to civil fraud proceedings governed by the laws of the Russian Federation.
  • Drafting the particulars of claim for a claim of dishonest assistance.

As a pupil, Jake completed work for his supervisors relating to international and offshore disputes, including:

  • Drafting a skeleton argument in relation to an appeal to the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court.
  • Drafting a skeleton argument on the validity of a declaration of trust under Guernsey law.
  • Advising on the rectification of the register of members under Guernsey law.
  • Drafting an appellate skeleton argument in relation to civil fraud proceedings in the British Virgin Islands.
  • Drafting an application notice for the stay / set aside of an international arbitration award.
