Mini-pupillage
Mini-pupillage is the best way to find out about the day-to-day life of a barrister in private practice. A mini-pupillage at Selborne Chambers will give any applicant an insight into the Property and Commercial Bar. It is hoped that during the visit, a mini-pupil will have the opportunity to experience both court and Chambers-based work with a number of tenants. As our junior members appear regularly in court, this should allow mini-pupils to attend hearings that are typical of the work undertaken in the first few years of practice.
It is intended that most mini-pupillages will last for no longer than 2 or 3 days. Mini-pupils will generally have either begun a law degree or will be considering undertaking or have started their law conversion year. We regret that student visits are not available.
Is a mini-pupillage necessary before applying for a pupillage?
No, but all applicants are strongly recommended to undertake a mini-pupillage in Chambers. However, due to the number of applications for mini-pupillage that Chambers receives, anyone who is unsuccessful in an application for mini-pupillage should not, for that reason, be dissuaded from making an application for pupillage.
How to apply
Applications marked "Mini-pupillage" on the envelope and should be made by way of a CV (including all past examination results) and covering letter addressed to the Pupillage Secretary. The covering letter should state the dates during which an applicant is available for mini-pupillage.
