How to apply for pupillage
Selborne Chambers is not a member of OLPAS.
Applications marked with 'Pupillage' on the envelope should be made to the Pupillage Secretary by way of a covering letter and Curriculum Vitae (with full examination results to date).
Interviews
The interview process will consist of 2 rounds. The first round will involve general questions based upon the candidate's CV, and topical issues of interest. Candidates may be asked a limited number of legal questions, for which no preparation will be necessary.
Applicants selected for the second round of interviews will face a longer interview, with a greater emphasis on legal reasoning and knowledge.
Is a mini-pupillage necessary?
No, but all applicants are strongly recommended to undertake a mini-pupillage in Chambers. However, due to the number of applications for mini-pupillage that Chambers receives, anyone who is unsuccessful in an application for mini-pupillage should not, for that reason, be dissuaded from making an application for pupillage. Applicants who have not undertaken a mini-pupillage in Chambers, but are successful in the first round of interviews, may be invited by Chambers to complete a 2 - 3 day mini-pupillage before their second interview. Candidates who spend time in Chambers will have a far greater understanding of our practice areas and our aims, and we believe that is of great benefit to applicants and members alike.
Timetable
Applications for pupillage commencing in Autumn 2009 must be received by the Pupillage Secretary no later than 30th April 2008.
The interviewing process will take place between late May and early July 2008. We will endeavour to accommodate candidates' academic commitments during this period when calling candidates for interview.
Chambers will make offers of pupillage to successful candidates immediately after 31st July 2008.
