Selborne Chambers in Chambers and Partners 2010
Selborne Chambers has again been ranked in Chambers and Partners 2010.
Ten members of chambers have individual rankings.
REAL ESTATE LITIGATION
Sources agree that Selborne Chambers can sometimes be underrated. Its
talented professionals go about their business with the minimum of
fuss, relying on results to do the talking for them. The set, praised
for its "communicability and sheer quality of service," has one very
big name in
Romie
Tager QC. Tager has made a name for himself as "a highly
forceful silk who fights doggedly for client interests." Never far away
from major cases, he recently acted in EDF Energy Networks (LPN) v
Welford, a matter concerning wayleaves and disturbance to land. Tager's
juniors include
Mark Warwick,
who acted in the widely reported Hollis v Rolfe case concerning undue
influence and trustee conduct in a property transfer. Clients point to
his "solid and inventive approach and his work turnaround time that is
second to none."
Stuart Hornett
acted in the Bruntwood 2000 First Properties Ltd v BT case, a
dilapidations matter worth in excess of £1 million. He enjoys a rising
profile as he offers "clear and concise explanations of property law
technicalities" and has "a thoughtful, winning manner." He wins favour
as does
Ian Clarke, a
commercial and chancery barrister who impresses with his "good legal
brain that he puts to good use on the really intellectually challenging
cases." Standout examples of his work include Perand Ltd v Waters, a
case relating to rights of way in a shopping centre.
Justin Kitson is "a
proficient junior who punches above his weight." He has recently acted
on the case of RAB Pension Trust v Fraser’s and is a big favourite with
solicitors. The same can be said of
Philip
Kremen who gets more than his fair share of instructions. His
popularity stems from the fact that he "communicates clearly and gets
the right points across." Highlights for him include Artworld Financial
Corporation Ltd v Safarya, a high-value dispute over a lease.
Neil Mendoza is coming to
the attention of the market for the quality and frequency of his
written pleadings. He acted on Manches LLP v Green in a claim for
unpaid real estate-related professional fees. Also rated,
Gary Blaker is admired for
his "persuasive skeleton arguments" and the fact that "he deals very
well indeed with substantially complex points." Examples of
his work include Ezekiel v Kohalia, a dispute between two families
concerning a real estate transaction.
CHANCERY COMMERCIAL
Juliette Levy of
Selborne Chambers is regarded as “an excellent chancery junior,” whilst
at the same set
Jeremy Cousins QC
enters the rankings this year. Having built up a strong reputation in
the Midlands market, he is striving, with some success, to build a
higher profile in London.
COMMERCIAL DISPUTE RESOLUTION
Romie Tager QC of
Selborne Chambers is hailed as a “dogged and effective” litigator by
commentators.
