Two join Selborne Chambers

Selborne Chambers announced today that Jeremy Cousins QC and Jonathan McNae are to join the recently founded leading commercial and property set.

Mr Cousins, an eminent commercial Silk, was called to the Bar in 1977 and became a QC in 1999. He joins Selborne from St Phillips Chambers, Birmingham where he will retain a tenancy.

Consistently commended for ‘the breadth of his commercial knowledge and “skill in court”’ (Chambers Guide, 2002), and described as ‘undoubtedly one of the leading specialist commercial silks’ (ibid, 2001), his recent cases include AIB v Martin [2002] HL, concerning the structure of mortgage deeds and Shogun Finance v Hudson [2001] CA, on leased goods/passing of title.

Jonathan McNae (25) completed his pupillage at Selborne Chambers after reading law at Jesus College, Cambridge and the Inns of Court School of Law. He is a member of Gray’s Inn.

“These new members affirm our dynamic reputation,” commented Romie Tager QC, Head of Chambers. “With the arrival of Jeremy and Jonathan we have attracted one of the outstanding members of the Bar today and one of the promising juniors of tomorrow.”

Jeremy Cousins QC added: “In a short space of time, Selborne Chambers has gained an excellent name for itself. I am delighted to have this opportunity to develop London work within a strong set.”

Selborne Chambers launched in June, 2002 when barristers from Hardwicke Building and 29, Bedford Row broke away to form a specialist commercial and property set. The addition of Mr Cousins and Mr McNae brings their total to 16 barristers.
